Legendary winemaker Julian Langworthy is a Rosé genius, with his own project here that’s more savoury and structural. Proper style, not just an afterthought pink drink, this one combines Sangiovese and Nebbiolo (and a little Tempranillo) for a well-chiseled drop. Spice and pepper, herbs and florals, cherry and grapefruit. Pure bliss.
Light, fine and expressive but with phenolic crunch and freshness which is very grown up. At 74% Sangiovese is the hero of 2021 Nocturne ‘SR’ Rosé , backed up with 17% barrel-fermented Nebbiolo. Then we chucked in 9% Tempranillo, too. Not sure why – just had it and it worked – and, as in the past, don’t tell anyone as it hasn’t made the label but it helped make the wine! Winemaker’s Notes
The Nebbiolo is hand-picked and, after chilling, whole bunch-pressed directly to old oak for fermentation. This takes close to six weeks, after which the wine is matured for four weeks in barrel before blending with Nebbiolo (40%) and bottling. This is a mouthwatering, fruit-forward, approachable rose. Delicious!
