Gran Mitla Sal de Gusano is crafted from a three-generation old Gran Mitla family recipe that will enhance the finest Mezcal you choose to pair it with. A distinct Oaxacan flavour to accompany your Mezcal, Tequila and cocktails, on fruits and salads, or in signature Mexican dishes. Gusano de Maguey is a native worm of the Agave. It’s a traditional delicacy that dates back to the pre-Hispanic era where it was consumed only by Aztec emperors and was known as Chinicuil. The Gusano is an indigenous species that feeds off the agave and are only prevalent seasonally between the months of August and September. After reaching adulthood, the Gusano is carefully selected and extracted. The Gusano is then dried, toasted and carefully ground with hand harvested Oaxacan sea salt. Today it is still considered an exotic addition to any dish in Mexico, and is often eaten in mixiotes, tamales and salsas.
